We headed north from Melbourne to attend Treaty Day Out at Rumbalara Footy Ground, in Shepparton. We decided to stay in Kyabram and found "Oak Dean" on line. What a treat, the house built in the early 1900s for the local doctor, is stunning. The rooms all have high ceilings and are decorated sympathetically. It is lovely sitting in the sitting room, reading and chatting. The kitchen is beautifully equipped, the bathroom is gorgeous and the beds in the beautiful bedrooms are super comfy. Around the house are green lawns, elegant plantings and spectacular trees. Gillian was a gracious host and gave us great info about what to do in Ky. Highly recommended.

We had an amazing stay here at Oak Dene Historic House. The house is gorgeous, we loved how much space we had, and the outside areas were beautiful. The kitchen had all utensils/crockery etc and the milk and snacks left were a lovely touch. A great place to get away too, wish we could have stayed longer and enjoyed it more.

As always, out stay at Oak dene was perfect. We have stayed there several times now and the place remains totally magical every time we visit. Gillian is the perfect host - so many extra touches that make the visit feel that much more special. The house is one of a kind and its restoration has been undertaken with restraint and consideration for the heritage of the building. Nothing is too much - everything is just right. It is easy to envy Gillian living in so beautiful a space. And the plane trees! We always enjoy our stay and cannot recommend Oak Dene highly enough. By far and away the best accommodation available in Kyabram. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

This was a real treat - such a beautiful old home that has been lovingly and tastefully restored and decorated by a heritage architect and the attention to detail and respect for design shows. The garden is also magnificently planned and kept. Gillian is a fantastic host, making sure we were comfortable and she had prepared a list of activities in the area for us as well. The beds were super comfortable and the lovely drapes kept the bedrooms dark for a guaranteed sleep in. Other lovely touches included fresh flower arrangements - probably from the garden - big plush bath towels, lovely kitchenware and fantastic books to enjoy. All in all a truly lovely, relaxing experience.

Oak Dene is an amazing, clean, quiet and majestic place to stay. I can not recommend this beautiful homestead enough! Myself and my family/friends were in shock with how stunning the house actually is! It is in a nice quiet spot in Kyabram and everywhere from inside the house to outside on the back verandah/yard is immaculate! Gillian is a fantastic host with such a kind and gentle nature. We were greeted by Gillian upon arrival and she was more than happy to show us around and give us the help that we needed. Well this was the second time we have been to Oak Dene and it was for a special event, a memorial service for my mother who had lived in the town. We had the service in the lounge area which comfortably had 40 chairs and if we needed to we could have fitted another 10 it had more room than we actually needed. We served refreshments on the beautiful wide veranda overlooking the lush green garden. We then used the fabulous kitchen and had a dinner in the dining room for 14 people afterwards . The facilities, location and size of the venue at Oak Dene is perfect for any event but was wonderful for our needs. If you are looking for somewhere to hold an event could not have asked for better. Oak Dene Heritage House accommodation was even more beautiful than the photos, so grand. Wonderful spaces where you could sit and read, a very relaxing environment. Kyabram is a great town to visit and there are so many things to do in the surrounding area. We have decided our next visit will be during the week . A real find.

In starting to write this review for Oak Dene my mind is flooded with the tremendous care, effort and attention to detail that Alan and Gillian have put into their magnificent historic homestead in Kyabram (Victoria). The stunning homestead was absolutely immaculate and brings to mind that familiar saying I fondly remember as a child that “you could literally eat off the floor”. Spacious, cool, beautiful, welcoming, relaxing, Oak Dene is undoubtedly an absolute pearl of a retreat on Airbnb. If you happen to be visiting Kyabram or Shepparton and are looking for a truly unique and completely way way way above average Airbnb experience, then Oak Dene is certainly for you. You could not possibly be disappointed in this fabulous treasure richly steeped in history and so very lovingly presented for Airbnb.

This was our second stay at 'Oakdene' - so impressed were we when we stayed there earlier in the year. As anticipated, everything about our stay was as we had anticipated based on our experiences on the previous trip. Gillian and Alan were both in touch with us in the lead up to our stay, both ensuring that we knew all we needed to about access and heating. The house and garden were immaculate; the fridge well stocked with all of the essentials and the beds made up with fresh white linen. There is nothing to find fault with at 'Oakdene' and we look forward to our next stay.

Gillian's place at Oak Dene is a lovely, large home, beautifully renovated, with a country house feel. The bedrooms are spacious, with very comfortable beds and the kitchen has everything you'd need for a self-catering stay. We stayed here to explore the area around Kyabram, and Gillian's place was a great base from which to do this. Gillian was very responsive to our messages, and flexible with our arrival time. She was on hand to greet us and show us around when we arrived. She had also left us some lovely treats and thoughtful touches to help make our stay more comfortable. I would definitey recmmend Gillian's place to anyone exploring this area, or just wanting a relaxing break.

Oakdene is literally an outstanding home in every way... Faithfully restored and impeccably appointed, it is a comfortable, very enjoyable place to unwind. The gardens are simply stunning, and the beautiful west facing verandah is a great place to unwind with a vino (or two)... The home itself is an outstanding melange of old and new, and we truly enjoyed our stay. The kitchen and bathroom facilities are superb, and the bedrooms comfortable and super quiet. Gill was a delight and a truly exemplary host. Can't wait to get back!

Our stay in Kyabram was a happy accident, as another place we had booked in nearby Echuca for an Easter girl’s weekend cancelled with only 3 weeks’ notice. We are so glad they did! Oak Dene is a gorgeous historic property, and Gillian went the extra mile to ensure we had a good stay. The photos do not convey how large the living spaces are. The property also offered very comfortable beds (including the single ones), a cute & well maintained back yard with bbq, wi-fi and Netflix. Check-in was very easy. We used the property as a base to explore Kyabram and Echuca (approximately 30 minutes away). Highly recommend.

Oak Dene is a magnficent home, that has been very well returned to its original grand state. It was a joy staying there and perfect for our family of 4 plus the extras who dropped by for meals. Very generous hosts, nothing was forgotten. The kitchen has everything to produce sumptuous meals and all the extra provisions were appreciated. All the period furniture, artworks and fittings made it so special, as was the garden with its many aspects from the house. The bedrooms and bathroom have great linen, rugs, finishes etc. The photos do not do justice to the size or grand rooms. We will definitely return on our next trip to Kyabram.

Oak Dene is exceptional in every way. The house is truly unique, is vast and has been lovingly and appropriately restored. Everything in the house has been placed there with an eye for beautiful things, alongside a equally balanced eye for amenity. Anything we could possibly have wanted was provided and the furniture, art works, garden and personal touches are perfect. It is obvious that his house is loved and that Gillian is keen to share its intrinsic beauty and features with those of us fortunate enough to need accommodation in Kyabram. Upon booking and as we were attending a family funeral, we asked some specific things of Gillian, all of which she chose to do in the true spirit of a gracious host and she even went further to offer us a level of service that we had not even considered ourselves. Her responsiveness and authenticity made the booking and associated communications effortless. This is 'by far and away' the best accommodation on offer in Kyabram and I cannot go far enough expressing our total delight in the experience of staying here and feeling supported by our host during a difficult time. We will come back to holiday here and cannot recommend it highly enough to anyone who is wishing to stay in a beautiful home - in luxury - in Kyabram. Ashley and Chris
